We didn’t vote for a socialist government. We voted for the right to prosper from our endeavours, for the right to build our businesses and see hope in our futures, not to have all control of our finances taken away and everything we’ve worked for be destroyed so the government can drink more champagne. Where have the Conservative values gone? Liz Truss was the last standing Tory, the last beam of hope in getting rid of this stinking money-grab that is IR35.

I have worked mostly as a contractor for the past 30 years, since IR35 came into play, I seem to be paying more tax than ever! I recently left a full-time job paying £75,000/year where I took home roughly 67% of my gross pay. I am now back contracting via an umbrella company working within IR35 and I take home roughly 58% of my gross income. I have had my rate skimmed by agencies, I pay Employers NI and Employees NI because the umbrella companies say they have no income (profit) to pay the Employers NI and I must pay an apprenticeship levy (what apprentice would they be?). Working within IR35 is supposed to give me the same benefits as a PAYE worker. What are they exactly; if I want holiday pay, I must put money aside for it out of my income, sick pay does not exist, I must pay for my own courses and medicals if the client says I need them, I must provide my own laptop and equipment and still work on a weeks’ notice! Initially the contract rates went up to cover these costs but now they are back to what they were previously.
